Larch grows slowly and has a straight trunk. The proportion of sapwood is small and the proportion of rot-resistant heartwood large compared to e.g. pine. Larch grows to 35 metres and can be used for demanding building and decorating needs: floors, exterior fittings, windows, ship-building and furnishings.
Larch is highly valued softwood tree. Its heartwood is reddish brown. Sapwood is light in colour. Characteristic to the wood element is its highly developed heartwood and the dark part of the growth ring, the summer ring. One of the central technical characteristics of the wood type is its high durability against moisture changes. The wood is very rot resistant and tough.
Note! Typical to the wood type is considerable colour differences and that it is heavily knotted!
Larch’s density is ~590 kg/m³ as air dry and Brinell hardness 1.9 to 2.5 HB.
As a floor material, Larch is considerably harder than other softwoods. Its tight fibrous look and beautiful reddish brown colour are suitable for many kinds of places where a character-rich and durable floor is required. Larch floor combines a great look with durability.
