Pine is one of the most common wood species in the Northern hemisphere. It is the most common wood species in Finland, its growth area extending as far as the northenmost Lapland. Pine grows to 25 metres. Typical to pine is the large heartwood part which with time gives pine its red look. Sapwood maintains its lighter colour.
The best pine wood material comes from densely grown pine whose annual growth has been even, and the proportion of heartwood is high. Pine is easy to saw, work, glue and surface treat. Pine is a valued material both for building and for fitting.
Pine’s density is 510 kg / m³ as air dry, and Brinell hardness 1.9 HB.
Pine is a traditional floor material. The real pine patina cannot be replaced by any imitation, and traditional lye treatment makes pine calm and slows down the darkening process. Its genuine Scandinavian look is particularly well-suited to private, peaceful spaces.
