There are approx. 200 to 300 different oak varieties around the world. In Europe, there are more than 10 varieties. Timberwise uses European White Oak. Oak grows to 30 metres tall and up to 300 years old.
Oak is a hard, heavy and fairly straight grained wood. It is warm brown in colour. The sapwood and heartwood are easily distinguishable. The colour of the heartwood darkens with time. Typical to pine are the mirrors caused by primary rays. In relation to its weight, oak’s moisture-induced shrinkage/expansion is minimal, and it has always been a popular wood for interior decoration.
Oak’s density is 690-760 kg / m³ as air dry, and Brinell hardness 3.4 to 4.1 HB.
As a floor material, oak is hard and durable, and a safe choice for almost any kind of interior.
