Is larch well-suited for floors?
Siberian Larch is the hardest conifer tree species. Its surface hardness (Brinell value) is almost double compared to Scandinavian softwoods. Can Timberwise flooring be installed with underfloor heating?
Timberwise products are well-suited for installing with underfloor heating with water circulation. The products are also suitable for installing with electric resistance floor heating, when the following points are taken into account: - floor temperature must in no circumstances rise above +27 °C.
- Floor temperature must not fluctuate regularly by more than 2°C (night-time electric heating)
- underfloor heating cables or mats must be installed at no less than a 30mm distance from the Timberwise product. There can be either an air space (in wooden floors) or a filling layer (in concrete floors) in between.
Read the Timberwise installation instructions for further details. How should wax-oiled floor be looked after?
By vacuum cleaning the loose dirt and wiping regularly with a damp mop. We recommend using warm water and mild detergent (ph 5-7) as cleaning solution, for example OSMO Color Wischfix cleaning and conditioning concentrate, which conditions the floor at the same time. Do not use alkaline cleaning agents! Depending on wear, approximately once or twice a year the floor is treated with Osmo Color conditioning and cleaning wax, which is easy to apply yourself. Will there be gaps inbetween the Timberwise floor in winter?
Small gaps may develop in the seams when the air is dry, but thanks to the micro bevels of the floorboard they cannot normally be visually spotted. Timberwise floor's width shrinkage is only 1/6 compared to a solid floorboard. Does a factory finished Timberwise floor have to be treated after installation?
Timberwise floors are ready to use immediately after installation. If desired, the oil-waxed floor can be treated with the Osmo Color conditioning and cleaning wax. Which underlay materials can be used under the Timberwise floor?
Various flooring underlay materials can be used such as cellular plastic, cork grain underlay or other recognised parquet underlay materials. If there is any moisture in the sub floor, this should be investigated and the cause eradicated. If laying on a concrete sub floor is recommended that the underlay have a built in moisture barrier or that a plastic sheet (0,2mm) be laid over the entire concrete area the underlay laid on top of this. How large an area can Timberwise floor be installed in as a floating structure?
As a rule of thumb, approx. 8m in the board's lateral direction and 10m in its longitudinal direction. An extra expansion gap must be made for floors larger than this. When installing, an expansion gap of at least 10mm must be left between the floor edges and the walls including all points where the floor will touch other fixtures, eg. radiator pipes, door frames, etc. When the floor width exceeds 6 metres, 1.5mm per metre must be added to this figure to allow for expansion (in possible moisture changes). |
